Jordan Islamic Bank (JIB) has won the regional award: best performing Islamic Bank – Levant from the WIBC Leaderboard during a gala dinner held on the sidelines of the conference in its 25th edition at the Art Rotana Hotel in the Amwaj Islands of the Kingdom of Bahrain on 27/11/2018 in the presence of senior officials from the central, Arab and international banks, businessmen, specialists and researchers. The bank was ranked on the basis of data employed in creating the assessment framework and has been sourced from the ICD Thomson Reuters Islamic Finance Development Indicator (IFDI) and Orbis Bank Focus, and based on various financial and governance metrics. These metrics comprise: Financial Stability (Total Capital and Tier 1 Capital Ratios, Loan-Loss Reserves (LLR) to Gross Loans Ratio, Loan-Loss Reserves (LLR) to Non-Performing Loans (NPL) Ratio, Non-Performing Loans (NPL) to Gross Loans); Financial Performance (Return on Average Assets (ROAA), Return on Average Equity (ROAE), Cost-to-Income Ratio (CIR), Assets Growth) and Governance and Social Responsibility (Financial Disclosure Index, CSR Disclosure). Concerning this award, Mr. Musa Shihadeh, General Manager of JIB said, “We continue to receive WIBC awards as a result of the successes the bank achieved and which reached to a prominent position among the parties interested in the performance of the distinctive Islamic financial institutions and highlight their achievements. Stressing his pride in all efforts exerted to achieve the Bank's strategy at various social and economic aspects”. The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, Mr. Khalid Hamad, Executive Director of Banking Supervision at the Central Bank of Bahrain, handed the award of Jordan Islamic Bank to Mr. Ahmed Abdul Karim, Manager of Public Relations at the Bank. The Leaderboard, launched in 2015, is the first comprehensive assessment tool and is an innovative benchmark to help Islamic financial institutions measure and evaluate their performance against their main competitors, helping to critically assess challenges and review growth opportunities. It is worth mentioning that Jordan Islamic Bank won the WIBC Awards for the year 2015 by winning two best performance awards: best performing Islamic bank in the country level- - Jordan and best performing Islamic bank in the Levant region.
